We use ‘on’ for days, dates and weekend (American English).

Examples

1a. (Right) I went running on Sunday morning.

1b. (Wrong) I went running in Sunday morning.

2. What did you do on the weekend (American English - on the weekend)?

Remarks

1. On fire 

= Being burned with flames. 

Example

OMG! His car is on fire!

2. On sale 

=At a reduced price.

Example

This watch is on sale for $50 only.
