Get on / Get in

1. Get on 

Meaning
Enter a bus, train, etc.

Example
1. I got on the bus.


2. Get in / Get into

Meaning
To enter something.

Examples
1. He opened the doors of the car and we got in.
2. Sarah got in a taxi.

Remark
We can’t stand in a car. So, we don’t use ‘get on a taxi’.
