The verb followed by a gerund or an infinitive - Need


1. Need - followed by an infinitive

It describes something is necessary.

I need to find something to drink. I am very thirsty.



2. Need  - followed by a gerund

We use a gerund with ‘need’ when the sentence has a passive meaning.

This bicycle is broken and it needs fixing.
